Birth Married

This site is dedicated to my van Heerden Family from Victoria West and Carnarvon, Northern Cape, South Africa where my father, Derwo grew up. Oupa Dirk taught at the Carnarvon School most of his life and the school secretary in later years. Oupa Dirk and Ouma Lena also farmed the family farms but lost them in the Great Drought. I spend most of my childhood summer holidays roaming the land around Carnarvon and on the hills of Victoria West.

The information collected on this site concerns most van Heerden as I added any snippets I found and the corrections made over the years.

The following projects are in progress. Correcting many mistakes made in the past and reconnecting missing links. Adding as many of our War Heroes as I can find.

A special thanks to the following groups who supplied most of the Headstone photos.

The Genealogical Society of South Africa (eGGSA)

The War Graves Photographic Project

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC)

Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai

Martial Arts of Okinawa

Just Shutters Thames Valley

Best Plantation Shutters
